The Visual language project is the cornerstone of Calgary s Utilities and Environmental Protection Department (UEP) public art plan.
The aspiration of this project is to encourage citizens to think of their relationship to water resources in an expanded manner and develop
an awareness of the natural and man-made watersheds.
This innovative commission was created in conjunction with the City of Calgary Public Art Program.
Throughout 2009 we are leading an interdisciplinary team - architect Yan Olivares , artist Matt Baker, water engineer Bert Van Duin, graphic
designer Emlyn Firth and a social geographer Eric Laurier- to research into the relationship between the Calgarians and their watershed,
their understanding of its man-made and natural systems and their impact upon it. This research will lead to a visual strategy to renew the
understanding and ultimately participate in changing this relationship into a sustainable one.
